just got back to antalya from s?de where i v?ewed and photographed the eclipse
w?th the akat group of amateur astronomers from istanbul. images taken are raw
digital so unfort cannot email any pics. today, ferhat, the leader rented a van
and we went to surround?ng areas to include aspendos where alexander the gr8
bought horses.
side is definitely a touristy destination but beautiful with 2000 year old
ruins to grace the mediterranean. the med?terranean temp felt like what
california water would feel like in san diego. many tourists observed the
eclipse amongst the ancient library ruins with corinthian columns but i am glad
we were on our hotel rooftop terrace with no crowds. many germans tourists
because s?gns everywhere "dammen und herren and schw?mmen ist verbotten"
everyone here has been terrific and we were all talking about meeting in china
for the 2009 eclipse. the f?rst visit to turkey for the venus transit was great
and this visit has been phenomenal as well. antalya is safe to walk at night
and there is police presence everywhere so after getting off the airport
transit bus in kaleici (the old city) district, i felt perfectly comfortable
finding my way back to my pension at 11 pm.
of course the food is great.
