My 35mW unit comes on immediately, no flicker or step up. Do make sure
your batteries are strong, that can cause these sort of issues. Keeping
the laser and batteries warm makes a difference as well, I keep the
laser in a breast pocket inside my jacket. If it is still an issue I
would get the unit exchanged.
I was using my new 35mW laser at Painted Sky Elementary tonight and the
beam was perfectly visible against the moonlit sky to the crowd around
me as I pointed out Polaris and gave my "7900mile diameter
Merry-Go-Round" talk explaining why the North Star is special. With the
aid of the laser beam I think most older kids and parents really
understood, you can really get the point across being able to gesture
and "draw" rotation on the sky.
The smaller kids just liked the neat beam.
Another lady asked my why the moon was a thin crescent in the sunset a
few days ago, and half now. It really is amazing to me how detached our
culture has become from these natural cycles. It took maybe two minutes
of explantion and the lady began to understand the lunar cycle, you
could see comprehension dawning. Again the laser was instrumental in the
explanation, being able to point out where the moon was a night or two
ago, and where it would be tomorrow night and the night after. Having a
beam bright enough to be seen with a half moon helped.
