[AZ-Observing] Re: Why Is M44 The Beehive?

> Commenting on Bill Ferris's research, it is interesting to note that W.H.
Smyth personally knew, corresponded, and evidently observed with John
Herschel. Also, Smyth's son, Charles Piazzi Smyth, a respected astronomer
in his own right, observed in South Africa while John Herschel was active at
Cape Town. Lockyer, of course, was an Englishman, and doubtless very
familiar with Smyth's work.

Hey All,

Given all the research done on this topic, who's going to volunteer to write
the article for S&T? It would be a shame to let all this discussion got to
waste. (And before the fingers get pointed at me, let me point out that
there are a few MUCH more qualified (read as "published") authors than
myself....)
