Ever see a jet do a "Roman Candle", they hit the fuel dump and the
afterburners at the same time to ignite the dumped fuel, what it looks
like depends a lot on the speed of the aircraft. I watched an SR-71 do
this a couple times in England at the Mildenhall Air Show, impressive
and loud at about 100ft AGL. It would have been even more impressive
after dark.
It could also be something new, anything for an air show bird. The
T-birds consider smoke generators standard equipment.
