[AZ-Observing] Re: Venus at Inferior Conjunction

Hi Tom,

I would say the arc extends 200 to 210 degrees. The seeing is not too good
today here in Chandler at Pecos and Cooper and the new 202. I am using an 8"
SCT at 62x and 133x. It is easier to see the full extension of the arc at 62x.
It has been very pretty all day, but it is starting to sink into the brown
cloud.

One reason to look at the conjunction today was to enjoy memories from the
transit. It has been fun to look back at the az-observing archives and all the
excitement from Venus observations as it neared the sun in June 2004. People
were easily seeing 270 degrees of arc and more. From playing with The_Sky it
looks like there were 2 full days either side of the transit when Venus was
closer than the 5.5 degrees it is today.

Mark,

Does the arc of the crescent extend more than 180 degrees from horn to horn?
