[AZ-Observing] Re: Venus Occultation Wednesday Morning

As far as I know, no one mentioned that the moon and Jupiter were to make a 
nice pairing on Saturday/Sunday morning so I was pleasantly surprised when I 
finally pulled my eye away from the wonderful viewing through my telescope that 
evening to see the two separated by about a degree. I actually thought it was 
Venus at first until I viewed Jupiter with my telescope. By that time Venus was 
just poking her head over the horizon and clearly in line for a meeting with 
the moon early this week. I was tempted to stay up until sunrise to see how 
long Jupiter would remain visible with the unaided eye, but sleep caught up 
with me all too soon. 
Friday was a calm, but dusty night, Saturday was one of the best nights I have 
seen in a long time, and Sunday night was nearly as good. I'm trying to stay 
awake here at work...

I was running the planetarium software to see how high Jupiter is
getting in the morning, and was surprised to learn about how favorably
placed we are for the occultation of Venus by the moon next Wednesday.
The two crescents will be about 12 degrees above the eastern horizon
when the moon covers Venus.  Leading up to the event, twilight will show
nice colors for camera-and-tripod photography, since this is 45 minutes
to an hour before sunrise.  Disappearance occurs at 5:10 a.m., and Venus
reappears at 6:00, with the sun just rising.  It will take about two
minutes for Venus to be fully covered.  I don't expect the reappearance
will be as interesting, since we will not see the Earthshine at sunrise.
