[AZ-Observing] Vekol Sat 6-16 - or ,those of us who didn't get to Cherry Rd.

 Hello Az. observers:

Wondered if there would be some company Saturday when at Vekol
EVAC site, given all the talk about Cherry Rd. Turns out there
were some 5 cars total, all arriving fairly late in the day. Big
surprise were the number of cows and bulls around the area. On
the way in, I had to stop some 3 times to wait for them to clear
the blacktop road and another stop in the unpaved section. The
larger/older beasts seemed to have an appreciation for the cars'
hazards and cleared off quick but the younger ones were curious
and approached and were not satisfied until they had licked the
astromobile a few times before moving on. Lots of moo calls both
distant and near all evening. Temp was sweaty for first hour or
so, then downright pleasant for the rest. Seeing was only good to
about 200-300x on Mars and transparency at zenith was 6th magnitude
but there was some summery (hey, didn't use the M word!) looking
clouds in the direction of Tucson but these moved off by 11 pm.
Mars showed the Elysium side and all of the details there quite
well. About midnight, a warm, almost hot west breeze came up and the
seeing unsteadied even more for a while, but this was only for a
half hour. Did a extensive look through Coma, Draco, and Leo with
a leisurely swing through the Virgo galaxies region. A few objects
in Centaurus and that was about it. Was second to last car out and
asked the remaining astronomer if he minded solo situation and he
was ok with it, and with that, carefully made my way up the road
back to I8 about 2:15 watching for bovine speed bumps all the way.
Passed on the Milky way objects knowing they will be part and parcel
of our Autumn skies and made up for moiston thwarted views of the
spring objects, even if they were riding a bit low.

Looking forward to this next weekend, and another most of nighter.
