I just talked to the wife of a pilot who had the red-eye flight from LA to
Phoenix (was in the air at 4am). According to his wife, he raved about the
display, said they were falling everywhere.
After being jealous, and wondering why he didn't call me for a guest seat in
the cockpit (I could have manned the Tazer and covered the back door!), I
realized how short that flight is, and think I would have declined an offer.
FAA and United would probably also frown upon putting shrouds over the
instrument panels, and turning off the flying lights.
Then again, I would probably be in jail now for making them turn the plane
around and fly a few more loops in between the cities to extend the viewing
session.
In the end you can usually find the positive in your situation.
I was very happy seeing them from Sunglow.
