[AZ-Observing] Total Eclipse from Phoenix and Tempe

After looking at the satellite (and radar) images, I felt like I had no
business seeing the totally eclipsed moon last night, but there it was for
the full hour and a half. Jenn and I watched the partial eclipse through
clouds from her kids' school near downtown Phoenix. We headed for Tempe
about five minutes before second contact. The eclipsed moon was bright
enough to show up despite all of the freeway lights along I-10 and US-60
on the way home. We got home about 15 minutes into totality, and I set up
the Pronto in the front yard, which gave a great view. The moon was
untouched by clouds for all of totality.

The colors were pretty subtle, but then I'm used to watching these things
from darker sites. This was a bright eclipse, as predicted, outshining
every star in the sky.

Just after third contact, the low clouds moved in from the west, and
covered the sky for good.
