Steve,
Since I was trapped on land in Aruba, I got only about 1 out of 2 minutes of
totality that were clear. I remember a corona that was elongated 2-1 or so.
In this eclipse, I thought I could see the corona out to 3 solar diameters on
the east and west sides, but only 1 diameter north and south.
I did see extremely fine detail to the polar brush structure on the north and
south limbs in Chuck Dethloff's 6-inch travel scope, but that may have been due
to aperture winning again.
Only the best, short exposures showed any of the tiny prominences in this
eclipse, and nobody claimed to see any of them visually. That makes 0-for-2 in
my case, as I forgot to look for them during the 1998 eclipse!
