Hello all;
I want to post an observation then see if someone can help me with some
information.
On Thursday, Feb. 7 from the Antennas site near Quartzsite I saw a very thin
Moon at 18:45 MST. I first spotted it with 8X42 binoculars, pointed the
refractor at it and could look down the tube of the scope and see it naked
eye. This was for only 2 minutes or so before it set over the distant
mountains. There were two breaks in the wire thin crescent that ran for
about 120 degrees of arc.
So, my question is: how many hours had elapsed since New Moon? Or, how
young was this very thin Moon at that date and time, given as hours old? I
can't get either of the planetarium programs to give me that information in
that format. If someone else has a program other than Sky Map Pro or
Starcalc that will supply that info, I would like to hear about it.
Thank you;
Steve Coe
