[AZ-Observing] Re: The Eclipse before the storm

I, Tim Jones, and our ladies had high expectations to see the eclipse
last night - until we looked up. Viewing from the Tatum Blvd/Pinnacle
Peak area, about 4 minutes before totality, we enjoyed a small window of
reasonably unobstructed viewing via the human eye and 15x70 binoculars.
Aside from the very small illuminated portion, the reddish cast and
shadows of the Moon's structure were sensational and reminded me of a
view I had of Mars years ago through my scope. I was just getting into
astronomy and had false expectations regarding what I'd be able to see.
At that time I thought the view of Mars was just "ho-hum." In
retrospect, I now know I had been treated to a most excellent view that
night.
