The prevailing opinion is that this nebula does not exist.
You do, however, join a distinguished list of folks who have
seen it: both Herschels, Struve, Dreyer, Steve Coe, and many others.

Perhaps the "silicon owl" could take up Harold's imaging challenge:
to produce an image having high contrast, little scattered light,
and a surafce brightness threshold faint enough to either show the
nebula or not at a level detectable by eye.
