I talked to the BLM who referred me to Prescott Nat'l Forest--Chino Valley
Ranger District (928) 636-2302. The coordinates for where we observe are
roughly Township 13 North & Range 3 East. The dirt road we drive down is a
county maintained road #168. What I need is the exact verbiage of the
signs--Mary at Prescott National Forest had no clue--so it's nothing to do
with National Forest, and Sarah at the BLM office in Phoenix hadn't a clue
either. If someone can forward the exact words, I can research a bit
further. Everyone I talked to at BLM & Nat'l Forest doubted we were doing
anything wrong setting up our scopes in National Forest just off a country
maintained road.

The size, coloring, and lettering did look like signs I've seen other
placesin the national forest. It is very similar to the vertical road
numberor trail number signs they use. As I said, I drove down the main dirt
road quite a ways and all of the side roads had the same sign. The one
thingthat was odd was that the sign looked like it was erected by supporting
it with rocks, not dug and planted in the ground. Those that were up there
may be able to confirm this.

about this topic. Part of it had to do with the physical characteristics of
the sign. Last month I recall something more like a post, but ignored a
direct
look to determine if it contained any printing. The posts' size was
something
like 4' tall and a few inches wide, no more than 3" I'd guess. Discussing
this
size with Andrew indicated, as I recall, this was not the kind of sign the
National Forest Service or our US guvmnt would post, instead it would be
larger
and more prominent. The question we were left with was, who put the signs
up?
Wondering,
