[AZ-Observing] Re: Star Party Rules another 2 cents worth.

If that's yours and Bob's two cents, I'd hate to see change for a nickle! :-)
I hope no one gets the impression that we were at a combination star
party/stock car race; it just wasn't that bad mid-field or deeper in - or
anywhere most of the night. Just takes continuous education of the newbies and
a little caution by all when futzing around with stuff or leaving the site to
keep it at the bare minimum, notwithstanding the occaisional trunk-light booboo
( a lot fall for that one). It's true the more people, the greater the odds,
but I saw my fill of faint fuzzies and galaxy groups, N318 was mag 15.2,
companion of 12.2 N315 and 14.0 N311 in Pisces, for instance. But where else
can you use Lurie-Houghtons, Dall-Kirkhams, Tri-Schiefspieglers, short-focus
refractors, Schwaars, Spooners, S-Cs, Maksutovs, and Ladder Dobs all in the
same night? Half the time my night vision was blitzed by planets, but it was
still one of the premier nights of the year for deep-sky observing and
photographing that otherwise would not have been done by those lucky enough to
be there.

I'll raise my two cents...

Splitting the field based on departure is a good idea. Zones should also
segregate those who do astrophotography from those who visually observe.
Furthermore, those zones can be separated into smaller sub-groups, like
planetary observers, bright object, deep sky, music lovers, smokers,
Schmidt-Cassagrains, Dobsonians/Newtonians/Refractors/Lurie-Houghtons,
Afghanis, etc.

Advice: Stay away from the light. Give warning if you leave. And worse
case scenario, close your eyes and shield your scope.
