[AZ-Observing] Spacefest in Mesa Continues Sunday

Just got back from a poorly promoted space conference going on at the Mesa
Convention Center (corner of University and Center). There is am impressive
group of astronauts who are willing to sign items for money and have their
photos taken for free. Among the astronauts are:

- Half (!) of the 12 astronauts who walked on the moon
- Scott Carpenter, one of the original seven
- Bruce McCandless, who deployed the HST in 1990
- Joe Kerwin (Skylab 1) and Jack Lousma (Skylab 2)

This afternoon, we saw Carolyn Porco give a review of Cassini at Saturn. Buzz
Aldrin sat right across the aisle from us. Next, John Young talked about his
experiences with Apollo 10 and 16, as well as the first Space Shuttle mission
and STS-9. Oh, and he was also on Geminis 3 and 10. Buzz Aldrin sat right
across the aisle from us.

Most of the talks were Friday and Saturday, but Rusty Schweickart (Apollo 9)
and space writer Andy Chaikin speak Sunday.

Other than Jenn and I, I noticed zero representation from SAC or EVAC.

Their Web site is:

Since Novaspace did such a poor job of getting word out, it's anything but
crowded, and that's good for us.
