The now-undocked Shuttle and Space Station are making a decent pass over
the northeastern horizon tonight at about 6:40. The heavens-above.com
site shows the STS-112 as being 1 second behind the ISS, although I wonder
if it will really be that close. From Phoenix, the local times,
altitudes, and azimuths are:
6:38:09 10 deg. NNW
6:40:59 29 deg. NE
6:42:43 18 deg. E
That takes them from the Pointer stars of the Big Dipper through eastern
Cassiopeia, and near M31. Both will be magnitude 0 or brighter. The
ground track indicates that the satellites will be higher from places
north and east of Phoenix.
And if you can't get enough of this tonight, there is a far less favorable
pass low in the west one orbit later at 8:14. I think this is rare to see
two consecutive orbits.
