I was able to help out a friend of a friend with his new telescope he got for
Christmas. The scope was not collimated very well (not surprising) and I was
able to show him a peep sight collimator, a Cheshire and an Orion laser
collimator. I'm pretty sure I got him sold on the laser.
I wanted to make sure his finder was lined up with the scope and the heavy
clouds made it difficult to find any stars. Mars did a hide and seek thing
every
time I tried to get it into view but finally I was able to get Saturn in and
give them something to look at. It was shining through the clounds which made
it very faint but they were thrilled to see the rings. Wait till they get a
clear sky!
Thanks for the heads up on the novice group at Flatiron on the 13th Rick. I
will suggest it to them and I think it is a great chance for them to get to a
dark sky and meet some of the club members. Jeff
