Monsoon madness was upon us as we explored the weather maps and clear sk=
y tools for =
the past week=85We wanted to get behind the eyepieces! We had the Pront=
o out doing =
birdwatching near Bisbee two weeks ago, but that isn't the evening sky. =
North looked =
promising as did far Southwest. Elevation and cooler air won out. So a=
s not to jinks us, we =
did not invite Adam along who just received his brand new Starmaster. =
Off we trekked from Phoenix yesterday to a forest road Bernie Sanden lik=
es just south of =
Tusayan. Through the rain and clouds we had our fingers crossed. The f=
inger crossing =
worked and we had a nice cloudless evening for viewing. There were elk =
roaming around =
and throughout the evening the coyotes serenaded us. There were all sort=
s of other critters =
checking us out as the bushes rustled an awful lot. Also spotted a glo=
w in the dark bug =
crawling around. =
With the sky being a little on the unsteady side, I stuck with the 22 Pa=
n for most of the =
evening and had enjoyable low-power wide field views. I would up the pow=
er every now and =
then to darken the sky as needed.
Went after quite a few new objects on a generated list from an Astro pro=
gram along with =
many favorites. The sculptor galaxy is quite an object. Am glad it was=
on the list and that =
I finally saw it and I look forward to giving it some time in the future=
. For the first time the =
checkmark actually looked lake a Swan to me. NGC 4490 was on the list =
and it appeared as =
two GX. Out came the chart and sure enough there are two GX and they fo=
rm ARP 269. Ok =
- Now I have one Arp object. =
The wife also had a good time chasing after her favorites and trying out=
some astro shots =
with her camera. She is quite pleased Orion is back to visit us.
It sure was nice to get out and do some viewing during Monsoon and thank=
s for not =
heading to the North =
Adam.
