I volunteered to help out the friend of a friend with a telescope he got for Christmas. He got a Celestron Nexstar 114GT, I guess Costco was selling them at bargain basement prices. He's had trouble using it and has asked for help. I'm hoping we get at least a few bright stars and a couple of planets to work with. I plan to bring over some of my different collimation stuff and other various accessories to show him along with some astronomy club literature to hopefully spark a fire and make sure his scope doesn't end up in the garage in a box. I also plan to show him some photos of last years All-AZ Messier Marathon to let him know the event is a great time for beginners also and maybe to get him to attend. I remember how difficult this hobby seemed at first and how much fun I got out of it with the help of the great people of Arizona's astronomy clubs. Clear Skies!
