[AZ-Observing] Public Mars Watch

To take advantage of this summer's close approach of Mars, the Physics &
Astronomy graduate students at ASU will be hosting a Mars Watch on the nights
of August 29 and September 5, from 9:00 to 11:00 pm. This event is part of the
Astronomy Open House series, which is a free event provided by the astronomy
graduate students.
Telescopes will be available. On August 29th only (this Friday) students
studying Mars (from the Department of Geological Sciences) will be available to
answer questions. A few of these students are directly involved with the Mars
Exploration Rover (MER) mission - the two rovers launched this summer. Spirit
launched on June 10th and Opportunity launched on July 7th. These rovers will
land at two locations on opposite sides of the planet. The ESA also has a rover
enroute, named Beagle II.

The starting time is linked, of course, to when Mars rises and becomes easily
visible in the sky, and also to give the observation deck a chance to cool off.
