[AZ-Observing] Poor weather, but good friends, at TSP

Howdy;

I was certainly happy to hear from Andrew that they had some good observing
in Tucson, I hope the folks at Cherry Road did well also.

The Texas Star Party was not so lucky. In 5 nights I got about 7 hours of
observing and there were always clouds on the horizon, so the transparency
was mediocre at best. However, I did have a chance to chat with lots of fun
people: Tom and Jeannie Clark, Brent Archinal, Bob Kepple, Glen Sanner,
Marilyn Unruh and several others who I am too fuzzy to remember.

I do have a safety tip-watch out for dear. I had a white tail doe hop out
in front of my car and I swerved and missed it. Unfortunately, the grass on
the side of the road was wet from rain and I fishtailed around for a moment
and wound up hitting a rock wall. So, my insurance will certainly increase.
So much for all that new astronomy stuff. The good news is that I was not
injured, I was going slow enough that I drove the car home and I didn't even
wake up sore the next day. I would have traded that for two clear nights.

Ya cain't always get what you want;

Steve

P.S. The nice folks at the TSP did give me the "Lone Star Gazer" award,
mostly for all the articles I have written over the years, so it certainly
was worth the trip. I will wear it around my neck for the next SAC
meeting;-)
