[AZ-Observing] Piestewa Peak Hike for Lunar Eclipse

Among the many lunar eclipse viewing options, Howard mentioned one in
Phoenix Mountains. I called Vicki Engbrecht, a ranger with the park, and
learned that this is a hike to the top of the Peak Formerly Known As
Squaw. They will begin the hike from the Hopi Ramadas, which you will
encounter before the crowded trailhead parking lot. There will be a
sign-up at 6:00, so she expects departure on the trail around 6:15. She
would appreciate the presence of any astronomy types who could interject
some true facts about lunar eclipses.

She indicated that hikers shouldn't need flashlights since the hike will
be under Full moonlight. I gently told her that the eclipsed moon does
not produce much light. Bring a flashlight, water, and your transportable
16-inch Dobsonian backpacker's telescope, and join the hikers! You can
