I've seen those in other pictures so I'm confident those are real.

I'm pretty sure what you were seeing was a processing artifact that is gone 
from my latest version from last night with re-worked color.

The great thing about CCD images is the brightness levels are so great that 
there are almost endless possiblities to what you can do to them.  For the 
heck of it, I posted two versions of the luminace data from my picture with 
the brightness levels set different ways to bring out different details from 
the picture:

This one I think shows the anti-tail you saw a little better:

Both of these files are 300-400 k.

Here's the full sized luminance only (b&w) image without all those pesky 
colors getting in the way.  This is a pretty big file, about 1 3/4 
megabytes.
