So sorry to be telling you this, you are vary mistaken. West View
high school handed out $80,000 worth of scholarships when my daughter
graduated. including the oldest living heart and both lung transplant
recipient in the world (received at the U of A medical center). The
advanced classes are taught by professors from ASU U of A and from the
local community collages. Ashleigh received a full ride to U of A and
graduated in three years with honers. She is home from England (another
scholarship) for her spring break and her school mates are amazed at her
scores on the tests in the UK. The quality of education here is
dependent on the student willing to excel. It is nothing more than a
slap in the face to the teachers here to say that Mississippi is any
better. Just ask the teachers in the club. And look at the JPL web site
and you will notice the number of U of A alumni working on the Cassini
mission and the Mars Rover teams. Arizona is not taking a back seat to
any school in any state. The culture here is different with many
students just wanting to get out of school and work like their father
did and still not being able to speak English. The AIMS test is a
mistake, it is forcing the teachers to teach students to pass the test
and not to think independently. Statistics do not tell the whole truth.
Being a product of the California school system and being a son of
administrators and hanging around with teachers on all of our family
camping trips, I am well versed in the problems and politics of the
educational system in this country. I did feel that I had an advantage
when I started collage here and was able pass through many under
graduate classes and work on more satisfying coursework. I am hopeful
that you will reconsider your position on the quality of schools here.
Or just come tour some of the schools like West View.
