You guys are harsh!
And at the risk of flagellating a dead horse, everyone please look
*very* closely at the image Bob posted. I submit that the "lower" edge
of the galaxy has extended luminousity that "billows" outward on the
ends that is indeed *possibly* obscured by a dust lane cutting across
the length of the object. In fact, I think the viewing angle is not
exactly edge-on but tilted a little toward us. If this is the case, then
what we see is the barred core with a heavy dark lane below it extending
the entire length of this very interesting galaxy.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
