On April 6th I ordered the Meade 16" LX200R with a permanent equatorial
pier (the pier itself weighs about 250 lbs). This morning I picked it up
at Accurate Cargo Delivery System in Phoenix and hauled it up here in my
74 Dodge van. I just finished unloading everything, including the
monstrously heavy pier. Thanks for the offer to help Jeff (H.), but as
you know _real_ Arizonans are strong and tough for their size. (-: I
had to have the 24" diameter of the base of the pier reduced to 22.5"
and Meade came through with flying colors. I am looking forward to
getting it in operation.
I'm not sure what I will do with my 12.5" Dall-Kirkham. Maybe it will be
the telescope for the 10 acre lot I purchased last December. In my
opinion it is a fantastic site for astronomy. The seeing has been
extremely good the few times I have been there. It is at 8,000 ft.
elevation on Horse Mountain, about 20 miles SW of Datil, NM.
