Hello All,
Well, this morning I was pessimistic, but with a small degree of hope.
I checked all the different weather maps and loops and forecasts, and became a
bit more optimistic.
Steve checks in and said that he's headed North.
I figure, "what the heck, Clear sky clock looks good for Cherry Rd, and there's
no flaming bags of crap in the forecast."
Load up, call Chuck Akers, fill the tank, and hit the road.
Near Cherry, we can make out Steve talking on the CB about heading to
Dugas/Orme Rd. (He didn't make it to Flagstaff, clouds up there you see....)
Follow the sound of Steve's voice to Dugas Road.
Looks OK, unload *some* stuff. (I said OK, not great.)
Cook/eat dinner, BS for while.
Lightning to the North, clouds slowly forming overhead, wind kicks up some, and
we smell rain. We weren't sure if it was going to be flaming bags of crap, but
we weren't going to wait to find out.
Load up again, and hit the road.
After 208.4 miles round trip, I get home, 7 hours and half a gastank lighter.
(but not as light in the gas tank as some I hear..... Names omitted to protect
the unfortunate. Nothing but sympathy my friend, you didn't miss much. Well,
maybe a good joke or two....)
At home, I let the dogs out back, look up and can just make out Arcturus and
Spica. That's 104.2 miles per astronomical object I saw tonite. Don't think
I'm quite tied with Joe Goss yet, and I'm hoping that he can keep that record.
Hopefully my "Foolproof forecasts for the dedicated astronomer" and case of
"Clowd-B-Gone" will arrive in time to avoid the same scenario tomorrow.
Sighhhhhh......Whatcha gonna do......
Thad
