[AZ-Observing] Re: More Comet Lulin images (and a Movie)

Keith, what a cool shot.  Now if you combine one pair of RGB images for the
stars with this image using Lighten in Photoshop, you can have it all.

I'd like to add my contribution to all the excellent Comet Lulin images
I've
seen.
I took these Thursday night/Friday morning from my Tucson backyard, using an
Epsilon 180 and ST-10.

The comet was really moving fast, so I stayed with short (30 sec) exposures,
24 each of red, green, blue, and luminance. Using a technique known as
sigma reject, I was able to cancel out most of the stars so that only the
comet is visible in the combined color image.

I also decided to make a little "movie", essentially a flip-book of
the
comet's motion across the field of view. The movies are quite large
(between 17-34 megabytes) so they will take a while to download. If you
watch one, you will see just how fast this comet was moving across the sky!

You can find the image and movies on my website at:

Clear Skies to all,

Keith Schlottman
