[AZ-Observing] Re: Meade Thrives

I have had similar problems. It turns out some of their customer service
reps are new at the job and not that knowledgeable. The trick is to ask for
the same person once you find someone who appears to know what they are
talking about, and be persistent. However, even they may not be
knowledgeable about certain things and may refer you to someone else.

[[Beevo]] Actually the hardest part was getting ANYONE in CS on the phone,
let alone a particular individual. In the course of getting the Magellan II
to work as advertised I was told that being an auto mechanic I would not
understand how it was supposed to work and we were in for "a very difficult
time". I have called Meade CS only once since that time based on the way I
was treated. The second time was almost as frustrating, they were not
willing to admit there was a defective design in the product even after the
second unit had the same problems and I found similar issues were reported
on other venues.

Were these things you and Ken bought new?

[[Beevo]] Yes in all cases.

I heard someone at RTMC once complain about the fact Meade didn't stand
behind their product. Then I learned from the conversation that they had
expected Meade to fix something bought second or third hand from someone
else.

[[Beevo]] Incredible and absurd!

I think this is way too unreasonable.

[[Beevo]] I also think this is unreasonable. I would never expect them to
willingly warranty a used product.

What it appears to me is that some people, I'm not pointing to you Bill or
anyone on this list, appear to want to have their cake and eat it too. In
other words, they are too cheap, even though they could afford it, to buy it
new and instead buy it at a really bargain cheap price used and then expect
Meade to fix it for them. This is the way I look at it.

[[Beevo]] All my issues with Meade were new products, nothing was purchased
second hand. MagellanII, LX50 10", Electric focuser for ETX125. I actually
gave up trying to get a fix on the focuser after two were sent and threw it
away and bought a JMI.
