I read that story too. It did not delve too deeply into why this woman felt
that her daughter's life was in peril. Unfortunately, far too many people
feel that the brighter the light the safer the environment. Crime statistics
just do not support that position. I feel sorry for her neighbors.

Today's paper has a story about a floodlight shining into a neighbor's
house. While it does not mention the night sky, it's a problem many of us
are familiar with. It might be best not to make my mistake of reading the
readers' comments at the end. The premise of most of them is that lighting
equals safety.
