Chuck,
That burning (re-entering?) object was much farther than that. I saw it
from a location near Wikiup, southeast of Kingman, more than 100 miles
north of you, and it was relatively low even from there. I have a photo
that shows it crossing about 10 degrees below Polaris, flashing mostly
green, and along the main flash streak there are 12 visible burst points
where it flared brighter. I did a quick-and-lousy scan of it; see
http://www.astrophotographer.com/Green_W-E_fireball.jpg
The original photo I have has far more detail, showing horizon clouds
illuminated green by the flare, foreground terrain, and background stars.
With that, the exact location from which it was photographed and maybe some
other observations it should be possible to pin down something of its
trajectory and fall point, which would be an interesting, if perhaps
somewhat quixotic, project.
I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who saw this object; contact me
privately and let's see if we can pool our information and figure out
something about it.
