Just passing this along; please don't send to me

The Night Sky Network is developing another kit for amateur astronomers that
will focus on telescopes and try to tie the story of the telescope to NASA
missions etc. If you have some thoughts on this, or if you know of
activities, presentations, or other materials that might be included, please
contact William.M.Greene@xxxxxxxxxxxx

Here is a list gleaned from discussions with amateurs and the public over
the last few months. What else should we put on the list from the NASA/JPL
perspective?

 - How diff Types of telescopes work: specifically mirrors vs lenses

 - What "power" is this telescope? Light gathering power vs
magnification - Why bigger is better - spreading/diluting of light away from
the source (inverse square law) - how distance (and inherent brightness) of
the object affects how much light we receive on Earth

 - Why do we use red flashlights at a star party

 - Long exposures vs what the eye can see - Eye Sensitivity - Why
doesn't the view thru the eyepiece look like Hubble photos?

 - Resolution: Can you see the flag on the Moon?

 - Why do the stars move through the telescope field (or why do you need
to move the telescope?)

 - Comparing the view of the same object at same magnification through
different types/sizes of scopes

 - History of telescope - Galileo 400 years ago

 - What telescope should I buy for my child/father/wife/students?

 - Important discoveries using telescopes - the only way we know about
the universe is from the light we receive here on Earth.
