[AZ-Observing] Gunnison Valley Observatory

I am visiting Gunnison and Crested Butte in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado,
and I have taken notice of the progress made in the construction of the
Gunnison Valley Observatory:

located at 7700 feet, 2 miles south of Gunnison.

Their 30 inch Dall Kirkham Cassegrain instrument is being assembled, and you
can see pictures at

I have a few pictures at

They plan to provide remote imaging capability via Internet.

This Observatory is being built with a budget of $500 000, which includes a
grant of $150 000 from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs, $25 000 from
the Gunnison Rotary Club and many others.

The team behind the Observatory includes the County and City of Gunnison,
Western Sate College in Gunnison, the School District, the Gunnison Valley
Economic Development Corporation, the National Park Service and many other
businesses and private citizens.

This community has given an example of how to bring Astronomy to the People, in
time for 2009 the International Year of Astronomy.

A great source of inspiration as TAAA proceeds with the construction of our
Observatory east of Sunizona Arizona.
