For all those who braved the cool night tonight and headed for dark
skies, I think they will be well rewarded.
I stayed in Phoenix and did some lunar observing with my 6" refractor
and PEP work on epsilon Aurigae with my C-8.
Earlier the moon views were not good. The surface under even low
power 100X - 150X looked like the Phoenix blacktop in July. There
were waves of distortion. I've never seen it that bad. The night is
very clear, however.
The PEP went much better. Epsilon Aurigae was near overhead and
provided very good data.
I suspect those at dark sky locations viewing deep sky objects close
to overhead will find excellent viewing.
