Hi Bill -
Details? Here's details!
Didn't see a soul on the way down. I started late (about 8:45pm) so the
stragglers had mostly surfaced. Once a half-mile down the trail it was only me
and the critters. I took so much time with pics I didn't get to the river
until 1am. On my way back up, about 3am or so, I did meet a middle-aged German
couple somewhere around O'Neill's Butte on their way down. Must have been
scared by PSARs to start early to beat the heat...2am might have been taking
that a bit extreme.
Not sure how hot it was at the river but it was noticeably warmer once into the
Vishnu than above. I'd say maybe 85-90F. At the river the sand and breeze
from the cool water made it very pleasant. Again, hiking back up through the
basement layers was a bit warm. Once above, the temp was back 80 -85F maybe
and there was a refreshing breeze. At the top at 4am it as chilly, maybe upper
50s.
I used my old Canon 20D DSLR. Most shots are 17mm ISO 800 about 22 - 30 sec
long. Obviously I had to lug a tripod with me.
No, I ignored the scorpion and rattler's pleas to carry them to the top.
When do you want to do one of these?
