It's likely that you won't be getting good weather. If you don't mind
leaving the park boundary, south of Tusuyan in the national forest is the
road that goes west to Anita. I think the mile marker is #228. Pull in a
mile or two from the highway, and there are flat areas. It's back away
from the Rim enough to be out of the tall ponderosa pines, offering a
decent view of the southern horizon.
