[AZ-Observing] Re: Good Sentinel this weekend

I was pleased to get a peek at Jupiter at dusk on Sat night in Matt's new
baby. As Matt climbed down the ladder he said, "best view of Jupiter I ever
saw." I climbed up and must agree - the view was stunning, definitely the
best I ever saw. Beat the pants off my 10" Tak Mewlon which I also had
aimed at Jupiter. I could see all the same details in the Mewlon but they
were materially brighter, more colorful and easier to see in Matt's 14.
Congratulations Matt, a really outstanding scope!

As to the seeing, I rated it at 5-6/10 at dusk and it deteriorated rapidly
thereafter to 3-4/10. I was using the in-focus Airy disc of star images
(and double stars of known separation) to gauge seeing based on this
rendition of the Pickering scale:

Had a great time this weekend but am now looking forward to Cherry Rd and
other more northern sites since it was pretty toasty during the day at
Sentinel. I hid under a canopy with Joe?? discussing cosmological and other
interesting topics plus getting to see some really spectacular views of the
Sun in his H-Alpha setup. Thanks for the shade Joe!
