I've also been following the comet the last several nights from North
Phoenix using 10x50s, 22x100s and then adding a 10" reflector last
night.
I can easily detect the bright coma with 22x100s and 10" newt, but it's
not so pronounced with the 10x50s. Elongation is apparent from this
location with all but the 10x50s - which show just a hint of oval form
with only averted vision showing a brighter core. I tried mightily to
detect any tail structure at all and cannot report having seen it. I
hope to have that opportunity from a dark site before it leaves us.
Also, I know others have commented at length on the velocity of this
object, but last night using the 10", I could observe movement minute by
minute past the background starfield. I've never observed anything
natural outside our atmosphere with such drastic apparent motion.

All,
Looked at the comet again last night from the backyard in north Phoenix.
This time brought out "Perseus" the Cave 8" f4.5 scope and the 11x80
binos. Spent about 2 hours looking from 9:30-11:30 PM.
The clouds were more sparse but the sky seemed to be a bit murky at
times.
With the telescope I tried several eyepieces trying to bring out a tail
but never convinced myself of seeing one. The coma looked the usual coma
oval tear drop with a much brighter small core in the middle.
With the 11x80's it seemed to have a faint tinge of an aqua color. And
maybe a thin 1/2 degree dust tail to the southeast off the coma. Then
again, was it just glare?
Anyone else get a look-see last night? Last night was the orbital plane
crossing event, right?
Rick R.
