[AZ-Observing] Re: Flats and Bias

I myself am getting into this, but it is my understanding that maybe the 
easiest suggested way to get a Flat is to use the sky after sunset 
before the stars come out. There are other, probably better ways such as 
creating an even light source in front of the telescope, but this is the 
easiest. Being easy, it will have some problems, but generally it should 
work. The reason for a Flat is to image vignetting and other effects 
from the telescope and the camera itself, and then subtract this from 
the light image. As such, a Flat does not have to be taken over and over 
unless the configuration of the telescope or imaging system changes.

My 2 cents. The real experts on this list can give a better answer.
