Greetings,
Copied below is a brief note from Tom Polakis, who appears to be
enjoying himself...
**************************************************************
Hi all,
Today is my 23rd day in Namibia. I went up for my daily hour or so of solar
viewing to be stunned by a spectacular prominence. I realize I am posting this
at 5 a.m. MST, but it may be worth a look, even if only on the web. The
prominence extended about one-quarter of a solar diameter, and morphed into a
loop over a half-hour period before quieting down. It was located on the
receding limb. This was at its best at about 9h UT.
If you have an H-alpha filter, today may be a good day to use it. If you
don't, see if you can find a good solar observatory site (SOHO, NSO, whatever)
that archives H-alpha images for August 27.
Tom
