   Are you going to observe or do you want to socialize. If your serious 
about going to dark Skies the Enchanted Skies Star Party is still near the 
Socorro 
light dome. If you are looking for truly dark skies and are not interested in 
Socializing then you there are plenty of places way west of Socorro that are 
really dark. I've been there once and I'm not interested in going again the 
time of the trip vs the kind of skies you get are not worth it to me. If you 
want some really dark skies and want to camp in some really primitive areas 
there 
are all kinds of places to go on the western side of New Mexico well away 
from light domes.
