In re: to the reference I gave earlier, the informative article on
seeing by Dr. A.E. Douglass, "Atmosphere, Telescope, and Observer" which
was printed in Amateur Telescope Making (ATM) Book Two, p. 585 (old
series) (edited by A.G. Ingalls) is now to be found in Book Three,
Section D.2, p. 361 et seq, in the revised edition(s) available from
Willmann-Bell.
A short description of a similar method of viewing the "seeing" shadows
and their interpretation, authored by W. H. Steavenson, was published in
the Journal of the British Astronomical Association (JBAA) Vol. 70
(No.5), p.204, June 1960. A text file is available on the web at this
URL: http://www.britastro.org/iandi/steave1.htm
Or I can forward a copy to interested observers who wish to try this for
themselves.....
