DON'T STOP OBSERVING THIS FASCINATING STAR !! (as quoted from the Otero site link below) -----Original Message----- From: az-observing-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:az-observing-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Tom Polakis Sent: Wednesday, April 27, 2005 2:01 PM To: AZ-Observing@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [AZ-Observing] Delta Sco Fading Argentinian variable-star observer Sebastian Otero has noted that Dschubba (Delta Scorpii) has been fading rapidly of late. This is the 2nd-magnitude star "at 2 o'clock from Antares" in the head of the Scorpion. It brightened unexpectedly from its usual magnitude 2.2 by a half magnitude late in 2002, and has fluctuated around magnitude 1.7 since. In brightness it rivalled the rival of Mars. Now it appears to be fading back to its original level, but who knows for how long. More information on Otero's site at: http://ar.geocities.com/varsao/delta_Sco.htm The English version is about half way down the page. When I see Dschubba in print, it looks like a combination of the unflattering nicknames for the current and most recent presidents: Dubya + Bubba = Dschubba. No? Okay, maybe I've been working a bit too hard lately.
