comet C/2001 A2 LINEAR observation for Jun 12th 2001 UT
After over a week of poor weather, the comet is considerably brighter than
my last observation on Jun 3rd at 4.3
This morning,
2001 Jun 12.82 UT: magnitude=3.3, diameter=12',
Despite 62% moonlight , the comet is plainly visible to the naked eye and is
brighter than most of the stars in Eridanus, hence it was difficult to find
stars bright enough for comparison!
Acamar (3.2) and ups 4 Eridanii (3.5) were used.
The nucleus still appears intact through 20cm L at 160x and ion tail length
in 7x50mm >2.5 deg despite moonlight.
Clear skies,
Michael Mattiazzo
