[AZ-Observing] Colorado Star Stare

Just got back from the Colorado Star Stare, near the town of Palo Verde Ca.
Marty Piezonka and I drove over on Friday afternoon.
For those of you who missed it, you missed a great feed. Friday night we had
hotdogs, potato salad and chips. Saturday morning we had burritos and cinnamon
rolls with coffee. Saturday night we had pizza, cookies and soft drinks. All
of this was provided by the chamber of commerce and the Colorado astronomy
club. Also we had porta johns with soap, paper towels and running water. For
all the hospitality there were only about 20 people total for both nights. This
was more of a social gathering than serious observing. The control of white
lights was nill, luckily I set up in a far corner so the lights were not so
bad. The sky was good Friday night with small light dome of Yuma to the south
block by a high berm. Saturday night was better until mid night when high level
clouds started to move in. This was their first year for this event. Next year
they will try to do a better job of controlling the white lights and either
blocking the road or a different site.
