I just returned from Chinle where I helped host two star parties, one
Tuesday night and one last night. Each were a success. While a long
drive, I felt it was worth it.
In addition to the star parties I gave 4 talks on astronomy. One
turned interesting when we got into the various types of black holes,
quantum and string theory. Lots of fun.
The high elevation and clear skies were great. I think next time they
need to schedule these with less of a moon, however. We looked at
M57, M13 and M31 as well as some double stars, planets and open
clusters. This was the first time most of the people had looked
through a telescope. It was very satisfying. Hopefully something will
be arranged again next year during the dark of the moon.
Canyon de Chelly is right there and a most interesting place to
visit. The second star party was help at the visitor's center.
