  That brings back memories! Not far from Muskegon was (is?) the Chicago
area Scouting council main BSA summer camp site of Owassippe. Spent many a
summer there in the late 60's and early 70's. Being from Chi-town, that spot
was likely my first intro to dark skies and some of our troop did bring scopes
and binocs and took many looks from places well separated from the campfire.

 The one thing that always amazed me was that the place had prickly pear 
cactus growing there, in places that had plenty of snow in winter!
