My guess is that the CSC does not include pollution (except if, heavan
forbid, the pollution forms as huge clouds with the same opacity as
water vapor clouds) in its index, because if it did would it go off for
good seeing for Phoenix, or the Prescott area at this moment? I was out
of state in New Mexico from Saturday to today. The whole trip was clear
and beautiful until I decended the hill from the rim to Camp Verde this
afternoon. It was unbelievable. The whole area was polluted with a very
visible haze from ground to above the mountain range. This pollution
continued all the way to my place near Prescott. It is still very
polluted but probably most living in the area would notice no difference
seen from the ground in it. Is this pollution blown in from California,
or is it haze from controlled burns? It is hard to believe the latter
because coming down the hill into Campe Verde and into the Prescott area
I could see no burns, except a small one way to the north. While the CSC
may show excellent seeing, the pollution I just mentioned must have a
noticeable impact on reducing visual contrast in the eyepiece field of
view.
