Howdy all;
I would like to add my electronic "voice" to those calling observers to attach
that dusty solar filter and get a look at the Sun. The sunspot group that is
in the middle of the solar disk (10484) is amazing. Lots of detail, huge in
size (easily naked eye with the just the filter held up to the Sun) and
fascinating with a little magnification.
Using the 7 inch Maksutov at 80X and 135X the amount of fine detail at 10:30 AM
MST is stunning. There are fissures between giant dark areas, a hundred tiny
black dots of a variety of sizes and shapes and several North-South pairs that
are immediately obvious.
The other large group (10486) that is just "coming around the corner" is about
the same size and complexity, so there will be lots of observe on the big ball
of gas and fire for at least a week. Don't miss it.
Lots of fun;
Steve Coe
